OTM workshops
At OTM we offer support for all kinds of acoustic music!

OTM hosts a number of clinics and workshops by builders and acoustic performers.

We've had some of the luminaries of bluegrass and the fingerstyle guitar community grace our stage, leading workshops for banjo, fiddle, guitar and mandolin.

In the past we've offered a beginning flatpicking workshop with Steve Kaufman, a mandolin seminar by Mike Marshal, a fiddle workshop by Richard Greene, a fingerstyle guitar clinic by Pete Huttlinger, a blues class by Kenny Sultan, and a bluegrass banjo workshop by Janet Beazley, just to name a few.

Sign up on our newsletter to find out when our next clinic or workshop will be held!

Dan Levenson Workshops

Old Time Fiddle &

Clawhammer Banjo

Stay tuned for Dan's next batch of workshops in 2010!

Sat. & Sun., Oct. 31 & Nov. 1, 2009

Saturday workshops, Oct.31:

9-11 am: Fiddle From Scratch, $40

1-3pm:    Clawhammer From Scratch, $40

Bow and claw your way to fiddle and banjo fame with these courses intended for pre-beginners as well as for those with a desire to review "from scratch" their old time fiddle and clawhammer banjo skills. We'll start with how to tune the instruments and learn the basic right hand bowing and picking motions as well as left hand fingering techniques. Participants will learn basics of these old time styles and will be given exercises and tips for continued self growth. We have a limited number of fiddles and banjos to loan to students without instruments. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!

Saturday night concert, Oct. 31:

7pm: An Evening with Dan Levenson,

$20 advance.

Sunday workshop, Nov. 1:

Noon-3pm:

Intermediate/Advanced Clawhammer Banjo, $50

Improve your skills while you learn how to continue growing as a clawhammer banjo player. Basics are quickly reviewed to get an understanding of the actual level of participants. "Double D" tuning is introduced. We also get into refining your right and left hand movement and work on becoming more comfortable with your instruments.  Through learning tunes we'll work with the concepts of double thumb, drop thumb, the Galax lick and more.  Chorded backup and improvisation will be addressed as well.
