Walt Richard

In 1974, Walt Richards and Vickie Cottle, along with Mike Craig, formed The New Expression Folk Music Study Center in San Diego. The retail part of the center was later sold to George Thorword to become the House of Strings in North Park, and in May 2004, the House of Strings transformed into Acoustic Expressions music center located on University Avenue in North Park. A few years later, Acoustic Expressions became Old Time Music, in that same location. Old Time Music moved to the Morse Building on 30th Street in early 2011 and, with a name change, was reborn as New Expression Music.

Our staff and teachers remain true to Walt's credo that anyone can play a musical instrument if they have the right guidance and commitment. New Expression Music is proud to be the home of teaching studios to fifteen veteran musicians/instructors who are dedicated to bringing the joys of music making into the lives of all who desire it. All are superb musicians in their own right, and experts in teaching students to become accomplished players. Please click on "Lessons" (above) to see teacher bios and contact information!

We've got a new vision and the gang is ready to continue the acoustic tradition forward into the future!
